[Sometimes, when you're taking a walk on campus in between classes, you happen across Situations™️.
Though, this one isn't exactly a situation Bailey expected, even if she's aware bullies are everywhere. Either way, she's not about to tolerate it.
She's not very big, but it really is amazing how much a Murder Walk and a death glare can accomplish when done with enough confidence, and it only takes a few words to run off anyone who remains. Her expression's a lot gentler when she turns her attention to the one who was being picked on.]
[The problem is, when you're a musical prodigy, sometimes that makes you a target for people who just want to take advantage of you.
Case in point, Noah has been doing extremely well in music theory- so much so that one of the most popular music cliques has been asking him to do their homework for them. Which, of course, is something he knows he can't do, so he refused. And thus he's been harangued ever since, a sort of outcast in the music department- but not completely. It doesn't help that he's also short and a bit of a wet noodle in terms of standing his ground, either.
So when Bailey steps in, he blinks, unsure of what to say until it sort of... clocks him in the head that he's been asked a question. He rubs the back of his head, a bit apologetic.]
Oh, uh. Yes, I'm fine. This is... unfortunately very common for them.
[Noah nods, looking out over the school campus before turning back to Bailey.]
Well enough. Imperial measurements will be forever lost on me, unfortunately- but I seem to be getting used to living here. Austria tends to have a bit of a unique culture in some aspects.
Oh? I would have thought it would be easier if you learned at a young age.
[That was how English was for him, at least. Learning it as a child in school helped him to memorize and be bilingual easily enough.]
You'd be interested in that? [It's a genuine question, and Noah tilts his head.] I can't exactly guarantee that it will be entertaining, but I don't mind explaining what I can.
[There's a bit of a laugh at that, and he nods.] I see. Sorry, I just find it amusing.
[Honestly, sometimes metric is just weird too. Noah gets it.]
You're one of the first. There's plenty here that's already similar, but not quite. [He stops himself and then remembers-] Where is this place, exactly?
[It's nice, actually. To talk with someone who doesn't know him for his reputation and his musical talent. He's just a person here, and it's completely new to him, in some ways.]
I'll follow after you, then.
[Seeing as Bailey knows this town better than him, he might as well go with her. It'll give him a reason to explore more on his own time, anyway.]
[She lets out a small noise of acknowledgement and starts moving, though she pauses so Noah can fall into step next to her.]
This way, then.
[It doesn't take long to get there, at least, and it's clear they've come at a good time-- there's next to no line at the counter. Bailey hangs back a little, though, and pulls up the menu on her phone, leaning over so Noah can have a look.]
[Thankfully the place doesn't seem too big, and falling into step beside Bailey is relatively easy enough. While there are taco places in Austria, they're certainly nothing like this. Noah takes a moment to really take it all in before he realizes Bailey's showing him the menu. He frowns, looking over some of the words. It's a good thing she's not taller than him- this would have been a lot more awkward.
Still... he frysquints, trying to figure out what the hell a carnitas is. Pernil? Adobo???? Noah wrinkles his nose a bit in frustration, not sure what he should order.]
I don't even recognize half of these. [A beat, and it takes him a moment, but-] Is there anything you'd suggest to start with?
Kaisou 'verse!!

... Hey. Are you alright?

[THAT'S A LITTLE CONCERNING, NOAH...........]

Bailey exhales, frowning a bit, but she lets it go, shaking her head.]
Well, I'm glad you're okay. Though, really, you think they'd have better things to do with their time...

It's fine, really. They're just upset I won't do their schoolwork for them. They are the popular clique in the music department, after all.

[Like their own homework, for instance.
She pauses.]
... My name's Bailey, what's yours?
no subject
I don't mind, really. [It's better than his family. Though he does smile a little.]
Noah. I only started here recently. It's good to meet you, Bailey.
no subject
How recently, if I may ask? And it's good to meet you too, Noah.

A few weeks ago. I decided to study here after traveling for some time in Europe, and actually learn music theory.
[A chuckle.]
I can say that being here is certainly different from what I'm used to.

[She pauses.]
Is that so... Would you mind telling me about it, then? [A beat.] ... Maybe over food? There's a place around here that has really good soft tacos.

[And then her uncle and aunt just kind of gave up after a point.]
I'd be interested, yes. I like learning about stuff like that.

It's alright, it is pretty funny.
[She smiles.]
It's just a couple blocks from here.

Well, what sort of meat do you like best? That's probably the best place to start considering this sort of thing...
